Apparently this video took about 2 days to shoot, 4 days to pre-visualize with models and such. Pretty cool and very clever use of a bed as a framing device.

Dear Sloblogdon B,

I'm a big fan of the site/music, let me get that out of the way. Recently I found out something that kind of messed me up. I'm 22 and currently go to a university in Florida (the one with all the douche bags, oh wait, that's all of them). While up late one night studying I left on the local cable access network which is usually good for a laugh at such a late hour. But then something so indescribably horrible happened.

My Dad made a music video.

Yeah. At first I couldn't believe it. But yeah, that was my dad, Mark, singing an original tune he wrote. And I know he edited the video too because lately he has been asking how to use my MAC at home and iMovie. Notice all the over use of effects and stuff? Jesus. And that girl in the video is my next door neighbor, Shana, who my Dad has been obsessed with for at least 4 years now. He always goes to her Hooter's waitress competitions "to cheer her on" he says. (Note the money shot at the end).

A little back story on my Dad, Mark; He is an engineer with our township and doesn't talk to anyone all day long. He drives around in a truck and drinks energy drinks supposedly checking on things around town. He is very awkward in person and he doesn't shower much at all. Ever since I turned 13 he kept trying to get me to start a band with him. Countless times I had to turn him down on his offer to "jam" in the basement. Every Hanukkah since the age of 15, instead of 8 gifts, he has written me 8 songs. One song a night. Now he has gotten better about it and doesn't demand to perform them each night, he just writes them in calligraphy on tea-stained paper and frames them. They cover my walls at home. My mother isn't of any help either, since she doesnt bring him back down to reality. Ever since I have left home to go to university he has gotten more and more delusional with his music carreer.

This video must have given him more hope or something. Because after it aired, he left my mom and declared his love for our next door neighbor Shana. She turned him down, obviously, and now he wants to come live with me in my frat house. As I write this he is on his way to my house, in his truck, with his guitar. I can't understand him on the phone, he is crying and mumbling some shit about Phil Thomas Katt, Shana and taking her to her Uncharted Zone.

The more I think about The Wrestler, the more I like it better than The Dark Knight or The Curious Case of Benjamin Button or Wall-E and on and on.

Mickey Rourke is fucking great in the movie and I keep replaying the climatic scene over and over in my head and think how sad and awesome it was all at the same time. I have the score from that sequence below, by frequent collaborator (and Lord of the Rings trailer rip off sweetheart) Clint Mansell.

Reading the script ahead of time will usually lead to a weird sort of let down, but aside from the jarring behind the back camera movements in the opening 5 minutes of the film, Aronofsky did a really solid job of bringing it to life. I had an aversion to Aranofsky's work ever since I went away to college and every person was watching Requiem For A Dream, a film I had owned and liked very much, over and over and ripping it off in their little projects. Okay I was done with Aranofksy; although after this film I am game for whatever he has to offer....even if he is trying to adapt the Bible into a movie or some shit.

It was a major league bummer to hear Rudy Ray Moore aka "Dolemite" died yesterday. He is the guy who gave me the courage to make movies. I always knew I wanted to be in film some way or another...But when I was about 10 or 11 I kept hearing about Dolemite. I remember convincing my parents to buy me the VHS and having them look at me all confused as to say "What the hell is this? Are you sure?"

The movie was amazing. I had never heard the N-Word (Translation: Nigger) used with such gusto. It was ridiculous. It was funny as hell. A man fucks a woman so hard the roof collapses? A homeless man offers you cheeseburgers, then to suck your dick? Poorly choreographed fight scenes with an out of shape comedian? Now you may be asking...

"How could this piece of shit give you courage to make a movie? I don't know if you are being pretentious or retarded."

That's exactly it. The movies were such pieces of shit that watching them in my 11 year old head I said to myself and my friends..."We can do that!"...And so started an addiction to Thrift Stores looking for 70's clothes, thinking of new sentences containing curse words and tinkering with cameras.

Don't get me wrong, I have many other influences, but a lot of stuff is jammed down your throat in one way or another. Sometimes right on the box "This is influential!". And most of the time they truly are. But for reasons beyond me this had a profound effect and the films could not have set out to do anything more differently.

So here I am, so many years later, on this path. And I wonder if I would have been an accountant or some shit had I not seen Rudy's wonderfully terrible movies. His inspiration will be a reason my life turns out so great...or is one of misery.

Rudy, I don't know if I should thank you...or say "Fuck You". You were one funny motherfucker, though.
